An All-Day Virtual Play-A-Thon

A favorite fall tradition at Zoo Atlanta returns in a dynamic new format at Play the Animal Way, an All-Day Virtual Play-a-Thon, on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing through 10 p.m. EST on Saturday, Zoo Atlanta Facebook will host exclusive content featuring animals around the Zoo investigating some of the year’s most colorful surprises.

Enrichment is a vital component of superior animal care at accredited zoological organizations, and Zoo Atlanta has a robust enrichment program in place year-round for all species. Animal enrichment, which may take the form of objects, foods, scents, feeder puzzles and more, stimulates animals’ natural behaviors and adaptations while promoting their well-being. Learn more and view the virtual animal activity schedule here.

As part of the Virtual Play-a-Thon, Zoo Atlanta will be raising funds to support animal enrichment programs. Throughout the day and into the evening on Saturday, social media users will have the opportunity to support enrichment directly via Facebook Donate. Gifts to the Zoo’s Play the Animal Way Animal Enrichment Fund may also be made on Zoo Atlanta’s website at give.zooatlanta.org/play.

Pre-registration is not required. Tune in to Zoo Atlanta Facebook to enjoy Saturday’s Play-a-Thon.

While Play the Animal Way is a virtual event, Zoo Atlanta is open daily with new protocols and procedures in place to promote wellness and prevent the spread of COVID-19. These include timed ticketing (tickets must be purchased online in advance); a largely one-way experience through the Zoo; hand-sanitizing stations throughout grounds; and signage and other aids to encourage social distancing. Masks are currently required for general admission for all guests over the age of 10. Certain optional paid experiences, including giraffe feeding, the Endangered Species Carousel, and Zoo train, require masks for all guests ages 2 and up. Learn more or plan a visit on zooatlanta.org.
