Adult Volunteers

If you’ve spent much time at Zoo Atlanta, you’ve probably had the pleasure of meeting some of our dedicated, passionate Volunteers. Maybe they helped you find the giant panda habitat during your first visit, or perhaps they introduced you to every gorilla in the family group by name. And the Volunteers who provide engaging, educational experiences for our guests every day are only one part of an incredible Volunteer Team. We have Volunteers giving their time to departments all over the Zoo.

If you’re passionate about wildlife and conservation, the Zoo Atlanta Volunteer Programs offer a great opportunity to give back to the community, meet others who share your interests, and have fun while learning more about the Zoo. There are opportunities to get involved at almost any age – we have programs for ages 8 and up. Our Adult Volunteer Program is designed for those who are at least 18 years old and no longer in high school. We’re looking for Volunteers who can commit to at least four service hours a month for at least six months of service.

So how do Volunteers support Zoo Atlanta’s mission? Adult Volunteers serve in many different roles around the Zoo. Impact assignments focus on interacting with guests. Volunteers in these roles offer suggestions to guests, invite guests to participate in educational activities, help with events, and facilitate personal connections to the goats and sheep in the Petting Zoo. Volunteers can also go through more extensive training to become Docents, at which point they can educate guests about any animal in the Zoo. The Adult Volunteer Program also offers opportunities to get involved with the behind-the-scenes operations at the Zoo. Volunteers can help prepare diets and enrichment items for the animals and can also help the Horticulture Team take care of the Zoo’s many plant species. And these are just some of the opportunities we offer on a regular basis. If you have a special skill that could support the Zoo and its mission, we want to hear about it!

Are you ready to join the team? The first step is to fill out an application on Zoo Atlanta’s website. Once we have your application, we’ll schedule a time to chat by phone about your interest in the program and available service opportunities. After the phone interview, accepted applicants will be invited to attend Volunteer Orientation. Our next orientation dates are in January, so don’t delay! What better way to start the new year than by joining a group of passionate, engaged volunteers serving at one of the wildest places in town?
