If you got mostly As … You are a southern ground hornbill!

Zazu and Gumby are the southern ground hornbills at Zoo Atlanta. These two are some of our most charismatic birds. Gumby loves to parade items around his habitat, showing off his rats and mice to anyone who passes by. In addition to collecting trinkets, Gumby and Zazu love to sit up by their window and people watch! Their nice big window allows them to get up close and personal with guests. In addition to rats, these birds’ diets are made up of bugs, mice, and quail since they are carnivores. When they aren’t chowing down on some mice or interacting with guests, Zazu and Gumby love to use their large, strong beaks to bang on anything within reach! They especially love the enrichment items that make a variety of loud sounds, such as metal mirrors and barrels! Another way they make sound is from their throats. Zazu and Gumby will often be heard singing together to show off their bond and defend their territory. This duo is bold and doesn’t take no for an answer!

If you got mostly Bs … You are a tawny frogmouth!

If you have ever seen our posts about those little chicks that look like cotton balls… well, this is them! While the tawny frogmouth chicks are super cute and fluffy, their parents are even more fun to get to know. Each has their own personality, likes, and dislikes. They all have a few things in common, however. Tawny frogmouths are nocturnal, so you will frequently see them up on a branch, sitting very still, and sleeping. The main times they wake up during the day are when it is feeding time! They love to be fed superworms and mice and are ready for them to be hand-delivered every morning and afternoon. Anytime outside of being fed, they are the unbothered kings and queens we all aspire to be.

If you got mostly Cs … you are a Taveta golden weaver!

During the summer, our Living Treehouse is full of dozens of carefully woven grass nests. These nests are the handiwork of our Taveta golden weavers! As their name suggests, they love to take any plant material they can get their beaks on and weave it into beautiful nests. These nests are built by the males and are then used to attract the females. The males will hang upside down from the nests and nearby branches, fluttering their wings to show off their abilities and good looks! When they aren’t building nests, Taveta weaver beaks are specialized in breaking open small seeds, which is exactly what we give in their diets, along with plenty of fruits and veggies to balance it all out!

If you got mostly Ds … You are a Chilean flamingo!

When you walk into Zoo Atlanta, the first animals you are greeted by are the Chilean flamingos. Depending on the time of the year, we tend to have anywhere from 60-70 birds in this flock! Flamingos are highly social species and prefer to be in large groups. In the wild, flamingos have been found in groups of 100,000 and up individuals! Flamingos are semi-aquatic birds that feed on small aquatic invertebrates and algae. Just like all other birds at Zoo Atlanta, our flamingos each have their own personalities and relationships with the other birds they live with. They are constantly chattering and squabbling amongst themselves.

I hope this quiz was fun and that it inspires you to come spend some more time hanging out with Zoo Atlanta’s beautiful birds!
