Keeper for a Day
Whether you’re considering a career in professional animal care or have always wanted to spend some time with your favorite animals, the new Keeper for a Day program will give you an inside look at how Zoo Atlanta cares for animals large and small!
As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Zoo Atlanta is a leader in the care of many species of animals, and we are excited to provide participants with this opportunity to engage with our team in a new and dynamic way.
Each program is guided by a member of the Education Team as you work alongside Animal Care Professionals to experience firsthand the various aspects of animal care. While program activities are specific to each species, participants can expect to participate in cleaning, diet preparation, training, enrichment, and more. During the program you will have the opportunity to have an up-close encounter with an animal. All programs and interactions with animals are managed through protected contact and follow our strict guidelines for animal care, safety, and well-being.
Before registering, please understand that during this program:
- Participants will perform similar tasks as members of the Zoo Atlanta Animal Care Team, which may include raking, sweeping, hosing, scrubbing, and shoveling, and should expect to do some hard work and be comfortable getting dirty.
- Participants will be expected to participate in all weather conditions, lift up to 30 pounds, and be on their feet for up to four hours.
- Must have the physical ability to bend, lift, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time.
- Due to the nature of caring for animals, participants may be exposed to insects, hay, animal waste, and other potential allergens. Please reach out in advance if you have any questions or concerns.
