Panda Updates – Monday, July 10
The cubs are beginning to become little mini-destroyers. We noticed recently that they have taken to pulling the bark off the logs in the dayrooms. The other day, I happened to look up at the camera as Xi Lun was carrying her “prize” to the top of the structure to play with it away from the others. She manipulated the piece of bark around with her mouth and paws until, of course, she dropped it.
Shortly after this, it was time to bring them inside in order to refresh Lun Lun’s bamboo. When I opened the shift door and after a little bit of calling from me and Lun Lun, Ya Lun came bounding in holding the piece of bark in her mouth! Unfortunately, I was laughing too hard to think to get a photo of it but, boy, was she proud of herself! She played in the shift hallway with it for a little bit before dropping it and moving to the den. When it was time to go back out, she ran into the hallway and picked up her bark and again began rolling around with it. By the time Xi Lun worked her way to the hallway, Ya Lun must have become bored with the bark as she left it in the hallway before going off to new adventures in the dayroom.
