Join the Zoo Atlanta Volunteer Crew
Do you love animals? Are you passionate about saving wildlife and wild places? Join the Zoo Volunteer Crew and be a part of the Zoo’s work to protect wildlife and wild places across the globe every day. From Family Volunteers to adult Docents, there are options that fit ages from 8 years old and up! Specifically, we have programs for families, teens, college students and young professionals, adults and groups. As part of the Volunteer Crew, you are a member of the Zoo Atlanta community making a difference by creating connections for guests as well as caring for the animals of Zoo Atlanta!
The Family Volunteer program allows parents and their children (ages 8-13) the opportunity to engage in service to others and have fun at the same time. Parents or guardians bring their young animal enthusiasts to the Zoo, where they can make a difference for wildlife as a family by inspiring our guests to appreciate animals in a fun, educational way.
Young conservationists ages 14-17 can apply to join the Volunteen program, where teens gain social skills and independence and share their passion for wildlife with others through on-grounds engagement with Zoo guests. A teen can stay involved in this program throughout their high school career, gaining leadership, conservation and career development skills that will propel them into their college experience. Applications for this program open in January and close in early March, and the program runs June-May each year.
As a college student or young professional, you can apply to join the Crew as part of the Internship/Externship program. Experiences range from conservation education to animal care/keeper staff; all experiences provide the opportunity to gain work experience while immersed in an individual’s passion for animals.
As an adult, you can join the Adult Volunteer program, where you start out creating connections for Zoo guests to the animals and the mission of the Zoo. From there, you can delve deeper into areas of your own interest, such as joining the Enrichment Team, who create enrichment items for the Zoo’s animal ambassadors, to assisting with our fun events such as Endangered Species Day or Boo at the Zoo! With a minimum commitment of only four hours per month, this is a great opportunity for the adult with a busy schedule who is still committed to service to the community and the preservation of nature. For those who have more time, you can move up in the adult program and join our Docent program. This cadre of individuals provide additional hours and develop deep expertise in regard to our animals and their care. Join us on Saturday, January 13, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to learn more about the Adult program at the Adult Volunteer Open House; to register click here.
Got a group of individuals you work with or volunteer with, and want something fun to do that provides service to our community? Come be a part of the Group Volunteer program at the Zoo for special events such as Boo at the Zoo, and give back while having a blast.
