Meet Flint
Alligator Snapping Turtle
“Flint” as in the Flint River for which he is named.
male
Unknown; Flint was already quite large when he arrived at Zoo Atlanta in 1990. We estimate his hatch date to be sometime between 1970 and 1975.
Scaly Slimy Spectacular
While Flint sometimes enjoys coming up to the glass for some quality “face time” with guests, he also spends time napping underwater, tucked behind or between the artificial roots in his habitat. It might look a little odd to guests, sometimes even like he’s stuck or not moving, but that’s just his favorite way to rest! At other times, guests may get impressive views of his entire body when he is up on his bank.
Some of Flint’s favorite foods are trout, kumquats, and muscadine grapes.
