Panda Updates – Wednesday, September 23

As mentioned in previous updates, cooler weather means the giant pandas get to spend time in the outdoor habitats. This past weekend it was around the low to mid 60s for most of the day, which meant the giant pandas could spend all day outside! So far, only Yang Yang and the twins have been able to enjoy outside time, because as you probably recall from Danica’s most recent update, Lun Lun is still choosing to spend a majority of her time in the behind-the-scenes den spaces. The other day Yang Yang spent the entire day outside, sleeping on the structure, eating bamboo, and receiving “sky biscuits” (“sky biscuits” refers to when we provide food to the giant pandas from an overlook above their outdoor habitats). While tossing him down food, my aim was a little off so his bamboo did not quite reach him, and the look he gave me was like “Really, Amanda? I was comfortable right here.” I reconciled by tossing him down some of his favorites like sweet potato and apple, and all was forgiven.
