Panda Updates – Wednesday, December 5

Having worked with Lun Lun for eight years now, I’ve never actually known her to not be either going through a pregnancy or rearing cubs. Lun Lun does not have any cubs to care for this year. It’s so interesting to be able to see her individual personality shine through as she has an opportunity to be a solitary bear, which is what giant pandas are by nature. Historically, Lun Lun has been known as the “bottomless pit panda” in the sense that she never seems to be satisfied. This, of course, was always due to her raising offspring and all the excellent care she provided them. Now she sleeps more, eats less, and seems to be enjoying this quieter life. She seems to be simply taking full advantage of her independence!
