Panda Updates- Wednesday, August 31

It’s hard to believe, but September is already here! September is a busy month here on panda routine. You may have seen recently that Lun Lun celebrated her 25th birthday on August 25. This leads us into quite the whirlwind next few weeks. On September 3, Ya Lun and Xi Lun turn 6 years old. September 3 is also our Play the Animal Way event. This is a fun day that we use to focus on enrichment and share all of the different opportunities that we offer the animals to encourage their natural behaviors. This means that there will be lots of exciting things happening for animals throughout the Zoo, including the giant pandas. While we will of course be wishing Ya Lun and Xi Lun a happy birthday on their big day, on Saturday, September 10, we’ll be jointly celebrating them and dad Yang Yang (who turns 25 on September 9). We’ll do that between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on September 10. And if you know the giant pandas, you know we say “between” because we’ll be on panda time!

After all the birthdays, we will shift gears to focus on Jackie on September 17 with International Red Panda Day! International Red Panda Day is a day to highlight the red panda and promote conservation efforts benefiting them in the wild. There will be red panda-themed activities and a special Red Panda Keeper Talk happening that day.

Hopefully you get to visit the Zoo sometime this month to catch some of the exciting things happening in September! If you are unable to see us in person, be sure to keep an eye on us on PandaCam and our social networks!
