Panda Updates – Monday, September 14

The Panda Care Team is in constant communication with our Bamboo Team providing them with information such as what species of bamboo the bears are preferring that day, whether they are leafing or culming the bamboo, amongst other things. This helps the Bamboo Team decide on what sites to harvest at and what species to focus on collecting that day. Currently, we are offering the giant pandas a few species: yellow groove (phyllostachys aureosulcata), bambusoides  (phyllostachys bambusoides), and henon (phyllostachys nigra). We have just started offering bambusoides, which so far, seems to be a hit. Right now, the giant pandas aren’t eating as much and they have been mostly leafing the bamboo more than culming, but as we enter fall their appetites will increase and they’ll go back to culming more.
