Panda Updates – Friday, November 30

In the giant panda building, the animal care team works a staggered schedule. So, one keeper is usually here for about an hour before the other, getting things prepped and ready for the day. After they go take care of Idgie the red panda, there is usually time to set up habitats and dayrooms, as well. If the pandas wake up before the second keeper gets here, we are able to give them leafeater biscuits and bamboo in their overnight areas to hold them over. I enjoy being the opening keeper because it gives me some quiet time to spend with the pandas before we all get our day started. This morning, I gave everyone some frozen fruit as enrichment to start out their day. Yang Yang was quick to take the apple and continue his relaxing morning while we waited for the second keeper to arrive.
