Panda Updates – Friday, November 22
Recently, I’ve been working on updating one of the structures in the outdoor giant panda habitats. The existing logs had aged and needed replacing, so I took those down. As I have had time, I’ve been adding fresh logs to the framing, which is still in great condition. I am not a builder by any stretch of the imagination, but working as an animal care professional for the last 14 years, I have picked up a few helpful skills like using saws, drilling holes, and securing bolts. Last week I finished the bottom layer of the structure. All of the giant pandas have sat on, scratched, climbed, played, or napped on it thus far, which is so rewarding for me! However, as you can see in the photos, Ya Lun and Lun Lun have really claimed the new platform as their own. They have both chosen it as a favored napping spot, and Lun Lun also enjoys sitting up there to eat bamboo. I can’t wait until I’ve finished the top of the structure and they have two levels to explore and enjoy.
