Panda Updates- Monday, July 8

The giant pandas receive varying species of bamboo throughout the year, depending on the season and what their preferences are. You may have noticed increased amounts of bamboo that is very slender and tall. This species is called Arrow (pseudosasa japonica). It gets this name simply because it is very straight and narrow just like an arrow. The pandas currently have been preferring this more than other bamboo species. The Panda Care Team communicates with our Bamboo Team to ensure that the pandas receive bamboo cuttings that are within their current desires. If at any point the pandas decide they would like a different bamboo species, our team can easily adjust the offerings to accommodate this.
