Zoo Atlanta mourns the passing of Choomba

The Zoo Atlanta family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Choomba, a 59-year-old female western lowland gorilla, on January 13, 2022. Welcome Machi the gorilla back to Atlanta!

Zoo Atlanta welcomes Machi, a 45-year-old female western lowland gorilla, back to her hometown. Machi arrived in Atlanta on March 29, 2021, from Zoo Knoxville.
