Purpose: Guidelines for media professionals visiting Zoo Atlanta

Eligibility: All media professionals

Policy: The Public Relations Department of Zoo Atlanta is the point of contact to assist media professionals with stories, television spots, radio spots or photographs.

Complimentary admission to the Zoo can be arranged for media professionals and is handled by the Public Relations Department at 404.624.2812. The more lead time the Public Relations Department has, the better the access that can be provided. We understand the nature of the news industry. When deadlines are tight, we will make every effort to get you the information and experts you need.

Visiting media professionals must be on assignment (media professional’s credentials must be visibly displayed). Freelancers should present an assignment letter on letterhead from the media outlet they are representing.

In an effort to maintain current files, we request links or original copies of all published articles, cassette tapes, VHS, CDs, DVDs or photographs.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES COVERAGE

Generally, it is not Zoo Atlanta’s policy to allow media professionals behind the scenes. Exceptions for access behind the scenes must be approved by Zoo Atlanta’s Director of Communications, Vice President of Marketing & Membership Sales or President and CEO.

MEDICAL IMAGE USE

Medical images that are part of the animal’s medical record will not be released without specific advance approval from the Vice President of Animal Divisions. Images of animals may be stored in the Zoo Atlanta photo library and used by members of the media upon request and approval by the Director of Communications.

In order to maintain privacy and reduce stress to Zoo Atlanta animals, media professionals are not allowed access during medical procedures. Exceptions must be approved by the Director of Communications, Vice President of Animal Divisions, Vice President of Marketing or President and CEO.

PHOTOGRAPHY OF ZOO PROPERTY

Zoo Atlanta’s Public Relations staff must approve all equipment being used.

All photography or imaging equipment must remain in the public areas of the Zoo.

Photographs of Zoo Atlanta property, including logos, images, facilities and Zoo animals are the sole property of the Zoo and cannot be used for financial gain, publicity or redistribution.

Zoo Atlanta reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph on its premises or to reproduce photographs of Zoo property (including Zoo animals) on Zoo grounds.

ZOO HABITATS

Zoo habitats may not be altered or moved in any way.
