Run Like Wild

Ready, get set… charge! Run around and through the Zoo at the inaugural Run Like Wild 5k! This is Atlanta’s only 5k race where you might catch a glimpse of lions, elephants or a white rhino, this year’s spotlighted species. Show us your wild side, dress up in your finest stripes, spots or feathers, and let’s run for the rhinos! All proceeds support Zoo Atlanta’s superior animal care and education and conservation programs.

This is a rain or shine event; however, in the case of extreme weather, race updates will be posted here and emailed to all participants.

  • 7 a.m.: 5k start
  • 8 a.m.: Little Stampede Run (ages 2-11)
  • 7:30 – 10: 30 a.m. After Party and Vendor Expo at Ford Pavilion inside Zoo Atlanta

  • No mail-in or race day registration available.

Little Stampede One Mile Family Walk & Kids Run (ages 2 – 11)
Kiddos can support white rhinos at their own pace during the one-mile fun run at 8 a.m.

    • Child admission ticket to the Zoo (valid for one year)

Virtual Runners
Prefer to support us from across the savanna? Virtual runners can run from home or on their own trail.  Time can be submitted here. Be sure to share photos of your run using the hashtag #OnlyZooATL!

Race Package
Once you register you will be sent your race package beginning in April. Race packages include your race medal and a race T-shirt.

Time to Run
Set a time to run either during the race period or on your own schedule. You can run or walk on a road or treadmill and either alone or with a group of friends. It’s all about setting a goal to complete the race distance.

When you complete your Run Like Wild Virtual Race, put that hard-earned medal around your neck and take a selfie. Please share your accomplishment on social media using #OnlyZooATL.

COVID-19 note: As part of our commitment to the continued well-being of our guests, team members and the animals in our care, and in ongoing efforts to assist our community in preventing the spread of COVID-19, the following protocols and procedures will be implemented for a safe and fun race.

  • 5k Participants will be permitted to run the course without masks. We will require masks to be worn after the finish line!
  • Little Stampede participants will be required to wear masks while on Zoo grounds.

After Party and Awards:

After the race, join us for the After Party at the Ford Pavilion inside Zoo Atlanta! Enjoy music, the awards ceremony, and a vendor market.

The top overall male and female finishers in the following categories will receive a pair of tickets to an upcoming Zoo Atlanta event:

  • 18-29,
  • 30-39,
  • 40-49,
  • 50-59,
  • 60-69, and
  • 70 and over.

The top overall male and female finishers in the following categories will receive a pair of Treetop Trail tickets:

  • 9-13,
  • 14-17.

Awards will be given at the awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m. inside the Ford Pavilion inside Zoo Atlanta.

Race Results:

Final results will be available online to all participants after race completion.

General Questions:

Q:  I’d like to participate in the 5k, and then also with my kids in the Little Stampede run afterward. Where can my children wait?
A: The Little Stampede walk/run will begin at 8 a.m. You will need to plan for an adult to wait with your children, outside Zoo gates.

Q: Are you offering a Virtual Run?
A: Yes! See registration details for more information on the Virtual Race!

Q: What time should I arrive on race day?
A: We encourage all participants and spectators to arrive prior to 6:15 a.m. to ensure parking availability and allow for adequate time, warm up, and get in the start corrals.

Q: Where can we park for the race?
A: Metered parking is available at parking lots located on Cherokee Avenue and in the Grant Park Gateway on Boulevard. Sorry, but event registration does not include parking validation.

Q: What will the weather be like in Atlanta during April?
A: In April in Atlanta, the average high-temperature is 72.5°F, and the average low-temperature is 51.4°F.

Q: Is there a bag check?
A: No, there will be no bag check.

Q: Will there be food?
A: Yes, light fare will be provided at the post race party (while supplies last). We will only allow race participants access to the post-race party.

Q: Are spectators allowed?
A: Considering the race course, spectators will not be allowed inside the Zoo. Spectators can cheer on runners at the start line, outside the Zoo.

Q: Is there a rain date?
A: No, the Run Like Wild event will take place rain or shine! Should severe weather cause a cancellation, runners are encouraged to complete their race virtually.

Q: Can I get a refund if I can no longer attend?
A: Unfortunately, refunds are not available.

Race Questions

Q: Are there porta-potties on the course?
A: Restrooms will be available at the starting line, at various locations along the course, and at our post-race party.

Q: Are baby joggers, strollers, or pets allowed on the course?
A: Unfortunately, we will not permit baby joggers and strollers during the main 5k. Pets are not permitted on Zoo Atlanta grounds.

Q: Are headphones allowed during the race?
A: For safety concerns, we strongly encourage participants to abstain from using headphones during this race.

Q: How will I be timed?
A: Professional chip and gun times will be provided by Orion Racing.

Q: Is there a course map?
A: Yes, we will have a map of the race course uploaded soon.

Q: How will I receive my medal if I place and am unable to stay for the awards ceremony?
A: If you place but are unable to stay for the awards ceremony, we will mail your medal to you. 

Zoo Questions

 Q: Can I stop to take photos of animals?
A: Of course! You are welcome to stop to view animals along the way. To keep the race moving, we ask to you limit your time in front of habitats to one minute.  

Q: Can I visit the Zoo after the race?
A: Yes! You will be permitted to roam the Zoo only after all runners have completed the course.
