Grand New View project underway

A historic transformation is underway at Zoo Atlanta! Construction has begun on Grand New View, opening in 2019. Through this transformative project, the historic Cyclorama building will be revitalized and reborn as Savanna Hall, a one-of-a-kind event destination overlooking an all-new African savanna, where African elephants and other African species will roam new and expanded habitats. Other project highlights will include a grand new entry plaza.

As visible progress begins, construction fencing has been erected around the future Savanna Hall and on perimeters within the Zoo’s African Plains zone. During construction, some African species, including giraffes, ostrich, warthogs and zebras, will not be visible to guests, but the animals will continue to receive superior care and enrichment on Zoo grounds.

African elephants will continue to be visible until construction begins on their current habitat, where exciting new residents will make their debut in 2019. The Zoo’s meerkat mob will move to a new home within Zoo Atlanta grounds – stay tuned for updates. Other species, such as the Zoo’s bachelor pride of African lions, will remain visible throughout the construction period.

Stay tuned for updates, and look forward to insights from animal care professionals in behind-the-scenes Keeper Stories blogs.
