Panda Updates – Wednesday, September 5

The weather is (sort of) starting to cool off, and we have been able to give the giant pandas access to the outdoor habitats on some mornings. Once the temperature hits about 70 degrees, the giant pandas give us behavioral cues that they want to come inside and enjoy the temperature-controlled indoor habitats. Giant pandas have very thick and dense fur, so they aren’t built to acclimate to the heat and humidity of Georgia summers and early fall. When the weather starts to cool down, and stays cool past 11 a.m., the pandas will be able to enjoy the entire day in the outdoor habitats. Until then, we give them the opportunity to explore in the morning before returning to the comfort of their habitats inside.
