Teacher Professional Development Sessions

LET THE ZOO HOST A TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSION JUST FOR YOUR SCHOOL OR ORGANIZATION!

Each of these experiences harnesses our unique animal ambassadors at the Zoo as the anchoring phenomenon for exploring grade-specific topics.

Programs are standards-focused but may be adapted to fit additional grade levels and subjects. Teachers will enhance their STEM curriculum and discuss how to incorporate Project Based Learning into their curriculum while exploring learning about the Zoo to identify cross-curricular concepts. Let us host a session for your team at the Zoo, or we can come to you.

In recent years, global awareness has been raised about the number of animals disappearing from our planet at an alarming rate. Thankfully, human actions and conservation efforts have met with many successes. As the bald eagle, grey wolf and California condor here in the U.S. have recovered major numbers, other countries are fighting to save endemic species and spreading awareness to citizens who choose to preserve wildlife. Get an inspirational look at how scientists, citizen scientists, researchers, engineers and other concerned citizens are using new technologies and creative measures to save animals. Find out how zoos help to repopulate areas when threats are lifted. Educators will gain higher understanding of unique challenges and utilize the engineering design process to brainstorm creative learning experiences for students. Bring your curriculum maps for collaborative planning.
