Panda Updates – Monday, May 1

Bamboo shoot season is upon us! Bamboo shoots are the young stalks of bamboo that pop up all over the place at this time of year. Giant pandas, amongst other animals, love bamboo shoots. They are soft, tender and full of nutrients. At this time of year, giant pandas would be eating almost exclusively shoots, so we try and gather as much as we can from around the Zoo. We even enlist our Bamboo Team to cut some while they are out harvesting mature bamboo. The more we can gather, the better while still trying to sustain our harvesting sites for the future.
