ZOO ATLANTA TO PROVIDE SAFARI CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MORE THAN 40 CHILDREN
Applications are open now for children from Title One Schools in metro Atlanta
ATLANTA – March 15, 2024 – Zoo Atlanta will again extend community access to its popular signature camp experience with the return of the Safari Camp Scholarship Program for summer 2024. The program will provide a week of Summer Safari Camp for 41 children ages 5 to 11 from Title One Schools in metro Atlanta. In addition to the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, applicable counties of residence include Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale.
Zoo Atlanta is deeply grateful to Cox Enterprises, sponsor of 35 scholarships, and to Southwire Company, LLC, sponsor of six scholarships.
“We know that early connections with animals and the natural world can change the course of a child’s life. A vital aspect of Zoo Atlanta’s mission is ensuring that the many opportunities that make up the Zoo experience are accessible to everyone,” said Raymond B. King, President and CEO. “The Safari Camp Scholarship Program, now offered in its eighth year, can help us extend these rich resources, sparking a passion for animals and conservation that can create a lifelong footprint for children who might not otherwise have a chance to attend Camp.”
Scholarships will include Camp tuition, daily lunch and snacks, a Safari Camp T-shirt, and an extended care option. To qualify, children must be current residents of the City of Atlanta or one of the qualifying counties and must attend a Title One School. Guardians may apply for scholarships for the weeks of June 3 through June 7; June 10 through June 14; June 17 through June 21; June 24 through June 28; July 8 through 12; July 15 through July 19; or July 22 through July 26.
Parents or guardians interested in applying should submit a completed application at zooatlanta.org/scholarship by 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024. Applications will be reviewed and awarded based on pre-selected criteria and completion of the application.
Applications must be accompanied by proof of residence in metro Atlanta; proof the camper attends a Title One School; a letter of need from the guardian describing how the child will benefit from Safari Camp; and a letter of interest from the camper. Applications and required materials may be submitted via email to education@zooatlanta.org with subject line 2024 Summer Camp Scholarship Submission, or via regular mail to Zoo Atlanta Education Department; 800 Cherokee Avenue, S.E.; Atlanta, Georgia 30315.
