ZOO ATLANTA HIGHLIGHTS NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

Zoo Volunteers contributed more than 39,700 service hours in 2023, and opportunities are available now

ATLANTA – April 23, 2024 – National Volunteer Week shines a spotlight on the remarkable group of individuals who lead by example and encourage others to give back to wildlife, conservation, and the community by volunteering at Zoo Atlanta. Observed nationwide from April 21 through April 27, 2024, the week celebrates the time, talents, and community service embodied by those with a desire to make the world a better place.

More than 1,300 Zoo Atlanta Volunteers contributed over 39,700 service hours in 2023. Of these, more than 13,000 hours were contributed to educational assignments alone. Education Volunteers play a pivotal role in advancing Zoo Atlanta’s mission by helping guests learn more about the more than 200 species that call the Zoo home, as well as by promoting the everyday actions individuals can take to support conservation.

“The decision to volunteer is a gift of time, talent, and passion,” said Raymond B. King, President and CEO. “This week and every week, Zoo Atlanta applauds and admires all those who set aside a personal commitment to volunteer in their community, and we are especially grateful for those who have chosen a commitment to our mission to save wildlife and wild places. Our Zoo Atlanta Volunteers are a public and visible expression of that mission.”

Adult volunteer opportunities, including the Education Volunteer Program and an Event Volunteer Program, are currently available by application to individuals ages 18 and up who are passionate about wildlife and conservation and are interested in a long-term relationship with Zoo Atlanta.

Youth ages 14 to 17 are encouraged to learn more about the Zoo’s Volunteen Program. Internships and a competitive Veterinary Preceptorship Program are also available for those interested in targeted career avenues.
