The largest sweep the hooch crew yet!

a volunteer participates in sweep the hoochFor the third consecutive year, the Zoo Atlanta Green Team led Zoo Atlanta’s involvement in Sweep the Hooch—an annual cleanup event dedicated to removing litter and debris from the Chattahoochee River watershed and tributaries. This year marked a special achievement for the Green Team, with our largest group to date: 20 participants, including team members, family, and friends, volunteering to support this important cause.

Organized by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Sweep the Hooch brings together hundreds of volunteers each year to help preserve and protect one of Georgia’s most valuable natural resources. On Saturday, March 22, the Zoo Team headed to Murphey Candler Park and focused on cleaning up the North Fork area of the park. We were a total of 90 volunteers altogether in the three park locations: North Fork/Lake/Nancy Creek. Collectively, we got 1,010 pounds of trash; 10 pounds of recycling; and 20 tires. We also couldn’t have asked for better weather and were graciously thanked by all the visitors throughout the park.

The Green Team’s leadership in this initiative continues to grow momentum and inspire broader participation. By engaging both committee members and non-committee volunteers, we are fostering a stronger culture of sustainability and community involvement across our organization. We are proud to celebrate three years of participation in Sweep the Hooch, and even prouder to see our team’s impact grow each year. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making a difference!
