Sneak peek at the Zambezi Elephant Center

Join Elephant Program Manager Nate for a sneak-peek at the Zambezi Elephant Center and new African Savanna elephant habitat, opening in summer 2019. Nate gives us a tour of the many special features of the new elephant complex, including design elements implemented especially for the enrichment and well-being of Earth’s largest land mammals.

The new elephant environment will more than triple the size of the elephants’ former habitat. Dynamic elements will include Abana Pond, the largest of the complex’s three water features. Additional water features will include two waterfalls and an enrichment feeder activity wall. The guest experience in the Zambezi Elephant Center will offer visitors an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the elephants’ care.

In addition to African elephants, the African Savanna will introduce new habitats for giraffes, zebras, ostriches, warthogs and meerkats. The messages of the African Savanna focus on the surprising conservation connections between Atlanta and the wild savannas of Africa and the everyday actions we can all take to affect positive change for wildlife and wild places.
