Safari Camp Scholarship Program 2022

SAFARI CAMP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WILL PROVIDE A WEEK OF CAMP FOR 55 CHILDREN

Applications are available now for children from Title One Schools in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County

ATLANTA – April 26, 2022 – Zoo Atlanta will extend community access to its signature camp experience with the return of the Safari Camp Scholarship Program in summer 2022. The program will provide a week of Safari Camp for 55 children ages 5 to 11 from Title One Schools in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County.

In addition to Safari Camp tuition, awarded campers will also receive daily lunch and snacks, a Safari Camp T-shirt, and extended care.

“Early connections with animals can change a child’s life, but these experiences can only realize their full impact if they are accessible to everyone,” said Raymond B. King, President and CEO. “We are pleased to be able to offer scholarships for an experience that can light a lifelong passion, support science learned in the classroom, and inspire conservation action.”

The Safari Camp Scholarship Program launched in 2016 and has been offered in every consecutive year with the exception of 2020. To qualify, children must be current residents of the City of Atlanta or Fulton County and must attend a Title One School. Guardians may apply for scholarships for the weeks of June 20 through June 24; June 27 through July 1; July 11 through July 15; or July 18 through July 22.

Parents or guardians interested in applying should submit a completed application at zooatlanta.org/campscholarship. Applications must be accompanied by proof of residence in the City of Atlanta and/or Fulton County; proof the camper attends a Title One School; a letter of need from the guardian describing how the child will benefit from Safari Camp; and a letter of interest from the camper. Applications and required materials may be submitted via email to education@zooatlanta.org or via regular mail to Zoo Atlanta Education Department; 800 Cherokee Avenue, S.E.; Atlanta, Georgia 30315. If an applicant is selected, a $25 non-refundable deposit will be required to secure the scholarship.

The deadline to apply is 5:30 p.m. on May 31, 2022. Applications will be reviewed and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Safari Camp: Summer Session will run on weekdays from May 31 through July 29, 2022, for campers ages 5 to 14. Programs offer an immersive experience that builds lasting connections between campers and the natural world with Zoo tours, science-based explorations, animal encounters, educational games, and more.
