Celebrate family on Grandparents Day

Enjoy free admission for up to two grandparents per party on September 9.

WHAT:
Make a trip to the Zoo a family affair – celebrate special family members at Grandparents Day presented by Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Guests enjoy free admission for up to two grandparents per party with purchase of any regularly-priced child’s or adult’s general admission ticket. Mention “Grandparents Day” at Zoo Atlanta Admissions to redeem the discount.

Grandparents do not require a ticket if accompanied by a child or adult with a regularly-priced ticket, which may be purchased online or at Zoo Atlanta Admissions. The offer is valid only on Sunday, September 9, and may not be combined with any other discount or promotion.

Although Zoo Atlanta Members enjoy unlimited free daytime admission to the Zoo year-round as part of their regular benefits, Members may also treat up to two grandparents to a Zoo day on Sunday. A named adult on the Zoo Atlanta Membership card must be present to redeem the offer.

Zoo Atlanta is also home to animal grandparents. These include western lowland gorillas Ozzie, 57 and the world’s oldest living male gorilla, and female Choomba, 55. Both were pioneers of the Zoo’s landmark Ford African Rain Forest and what is now one of North America’s largest populations of gorillas. Combined, Ozzie and Choomba have more than 40 descendants, including children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and, in Choomba’s case, a great-great grandchild, living at Zoo Atlanta and in accredited zoological organizations throughout the U.S.

Another living legend and grandparent, Yang Yang the giant panda, celebrates a birthday on Grandparents Day. Yang Yang, who has descendants living at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China, turns 21 on September 9.

About Zoo Atlanta
Viewed as one of the finest zoological institutions in the U.S. and a proud accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Zoo Atlanta has a mission to inspire value and preservation of wildlife through a unique mix of education and outdoor family experiences. Zoo highlights include giant pandas, including Ya Lun and Xi Lun, a set of twins born to Lun Lun on September 3, 2016; one of North America’s largest zoological populations of great apes; and a global center of excellence for the care and study of reptiles and amphibians. Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience, featuring more than 70 species in a 111,000 square-foot complex, is the world’s first LEED Gold-certified reptile and amphibian exhibit. The Zoo’s newest experience, Treetop Trail presented by Kaiser Permanente, opened in March 2017. Up-close-and-personal animal experiences include behind-the-scenes Wild Encounters with African elephants, African lions, Aldabra giant tortoises, giant pandas and lemurs. Zoo Atlanta is open year-round with the exceptions of Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Keeper talks, interactive wildlife presentations, education programs and special events run year-round.
