Book Drive for Hindi’s Libraries

Donate new or gently used children’s books at the Zoo from July 22 through July 29

ATLANTA – July 18, 2023 – Zoo Atlanta will host a weeklong Book Drive to provide free-of-cost books to children in need through partnership with Literacy Nonprofit Hindi’s Libraries. Books will be collected from Saturday, July 22 through Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Zoo Atlanta’s Member Services Office.

Zoo Members, guests, and members of the community are encouraged to donate new or gently used children’s books, including board books, chapter books and children’s novels, and high school literature. Zoo admission is not required to donate books. Located just outside Zoo Atlanta Admissions, the Member Services Office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.

Founded in 2018 in memory of Dr. Hindi Krinsky, a beloved educator who passed away suddenly, Hindi’s Libraries has donated more than 415,000 books to children across the globe, both in the U.S. and internationally. Books are always provided free of cost, as the organization absorbs all shipping fees.

Books collected at Zoo Atlanta will benefit Feeding GA Families, an Atlanta nonprofit working to reduce food and basic resource insecurity through food pantries and collection of other needed items, including books.

“Education is a central part of the mission of Zoo Atlanta, and we believe the joy of reading is much like the experience of visiting the Zoo – it should not be missing from any child’s life,” said Raymond B. King, President and CEO of Zoo Atlanta. “We are proud to be part of an effort that will make books available to children here in our local community.”

“Reading is essential every month of the year. We are delighted to be in a position to provide books to help children continue learning and reading regardless of their current circumstances, just as Hindi would have wanted,” said Leslie Gang, Co-Founder of Hindi’s Libraries.

Books may not contain tears or rips, stains, missing pages, ink or crayon marks, or missing accessories. Find full Book Drive information and guidelines here on zooatlanta.org.
