Meet Kelly

Elephant Complex

Kelly is the Zoo's more engaging elephant. She is very social and active and enjoys spending time with and training with her keepers. She is socially dominant over Tara. Kelly is the taller, leaner and redder one of our two elephants; she is this color due to her Georgia red clay habitat. She is also the elephant missing the hair on the tip of her tail. Some of Kelly’s favorite activities are being with her care team and getting lots of attention from them, painting, throwing mud on herself in her wallow, and scraping bark off of the logs in her habitat to snack on. Her favorite foods are watermelons, apples and her specialized elephant grain that she gets as a daily part of her diet at Zoo Atlanta.

Learn more about Kelly’s and Tara’s new habitat, opening this summer, on the African Savanna page.
