HomeSchool Academy: Fall
Join Zoo Atlanta for a morning of learning and discovery designed specifically for homeschool students!
HomeSchool Academy is a two-hour program that allows students to explore animal and science concepts in an engaging, interactive environment. Programs are grade-appropriate and include hands-on, minds-on activities and Zoo tours that hone students’ STEM skillsets in a collaborative environment. Each semester, students will gain a deeper understanding of animals’ unique adaptations and will leave with an increased connection to wildlife and a greater desire to take conservation action.

THEMES:
All babies are different - fuzzy, feathery, scaly, and naked. Spend the semester observing which animals look like their parents when they are born, and which ones grow into it! Learn all about the different ways parents care (or don’t care) for their children and what it takes for them to survive.
The fastest growing plant deserves lots of love. From bugs to breakfast to boats, bamboo provides for many species. Join us this semester as we discover the ins and outs of how animals use bamboo.
Exoskeletons? Identical quadruplets? Prehensile limbs? Biology sure is strange! Investigate the weirder side of wildlife this semester and learn about the internal and external anatomy of certain species.
So you want to work at a zoo? From college to animal care, learn what careers are available and some of the skill sets needed to acquire future positions working with and caring for animals.
DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
- Drop-off and pick-up will occur via the Education Conservation Gate of the Zoo.
- The Education Conservation Gate is located in the south (right-hand) corner of the Cherokee Avenue parking lot.
- At Drop-off, parents/guardians will be given a printed check-out number for their children, which is required of anyone picking up your child. Please place this number on a visible part of your car’s dashboard during check-out. For your child’s safety, we will not release your child unless the appropriate check-out number is provided at check-out. If your child will be picked up by someone else, the number can be written on a piece of paper and be presented at check-out.
- Students must be dropped off and picked-up by a parent or guardian.
- Procedures for Pick-up and Drop-off
- Enter the Cherokee Avenue parking lot at the stoplight at the intersection of Cherokee Avenue and Georgia Avenue. Go down the hill and veer right immediately before you reach the first building (do not enter the roundabout). From there, pass the buildings on your left and drive along the lower fence line to the “Education Conservation” Gate, entering the queue for both drop-off and check-out.
- At drop-off, an Educator will greet your child and help them from the car. Do not drop off a child without checking in properly with the Education staff.
- During check-out, a staff member will relay the Check-Out Number from your dashboard to the Educators to prepare your child for check-out.
- For the safety of children, parents/guardians, and staff, please remain in your vehicle during drop-off and pick-up.
- Participants arriving late must use the call box outside of the Education Conservation Gate to call Security.
- If you choose to stay on Zoo grounds while your child is participating in the program, you will need to enter through the Zoo’s front entrance. Tickets or a Zoo Atlanta Membership may be purchased online or in person.
- Parking is conveniently located in the lot on Cherokee Avenue and in the new Grant Park Gateway parking facility on Boulevard. These are public parking lots and are owned by the City of Atlanta and managed by AAA Parking. Rates will be $3 an hour for a maximum of $12 a day.
