RECYCLE ELECTRONICS AT ZOO ATLANTA ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 16

Second annual E-Waste Recycling Event returns with a chance to declutter and support conservation

WHAT: The Zoo Atlanta Green Team will host a second-annual E-Waste Recycling Event on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Members and guests are encouraged to bring small electronics  to recycle through partners at ecocell to benefit the Gorillas on the Line … Answer the Call campaign. Accepted items will include cell phones; smartphones; iPads; iPods; smartwatches; and digital cameras.

All proceeds from small electronics recycling will support the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) SAFE Gorilla. There is a direct connection between the manufacturing of these items and wild gorillas, as the rare earth minerals used in their production are found in only a few places on the planet – including gorilla habitat in Africa. Recycling of these materials reduces the demand for these minerals, and proceeds from recycled devices directly support field conservation efforts.

Participants may bring items to the circular drive outside Savanna Hall, where members of the Green Team, an internal committee of team members working to forward the Zoo’s on-grounds sustainability initiatives, will be ready to assist. The circular drive is located just past the base of the Cherokee Avenue parking lot on the Grant Park side of the lot.

Zoo Atlanta has also again partnered with Prime Asset Recovery for the recycling of larger items, including but not limited to monitors; desktop computers; laptops; keyboards; servers; printers; and more.

A proud accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the gold standard for animal care and welfare, Zoo Atlanta has a mission to save wildlife and their habitats through conservation, research, education, and engaging experiences. The Zoo is home to hundreds of animals representing more than 200 species from around the world, many of them endangered or critically endangered. Highlights include a transformed African Savanna featuring expanded habitats for African elephants, giraffes, zebras, ostrich, warthogs, meerkats, and rhinos; one of North America’s largest populations of great apes; and a global center of excellence for the care and study of reptiles and amphibians. Recent transformations include a newly updated African lion complex, opened in April 2025, and the state-of-the-art Rollins Animal Health Center, completed in 2024.
