Veterans Day presented by Kaiser Permanente

Free admission for veterans, active-duty, reserve and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces, plus discounts for accompanying guests, on November 11.

WHAT:
Zoo Atlanta salutes the service of veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces at Veterans Day presented by Kaiser Permanente on Monday, November 11, 2019. All veteran, active-duty, reserve and retired members of the Armed Forces will enjoy free admission (verification required) and $4 off general admission for up to six accompanying guests. Present a valid military ID or DD-214 form in person at Zoo Atlanta Admissions to redeem the discount.

Stop by to visit an American icon, Sequoyah the bald eagle. Bald eagles like Sequoyah are typically brought to rehabilitation centers for injuries caused by power lines, cars and hunting. The species is federally protected, and all releasable bald eagles are required by law to be returned to the wild. Sequoyah, who came to Zoo Atlanta from a rehabilitation center in 2015, is not a candidate for re-release because of a permanent wing injury.

Found only in North America and named the national bird of the U.S. in 1782, the bald eagle is a conservation success story. Driven nearly to extinction in the 20th century, the species was removed from the Endangered Species List in 2007 but remains protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty and state laws.

Zoo Atlanta offers free admission year-round to honor those who serve or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Veterans Day discount, which includes discounted admission for accompanying guests, is valid only on Monday, November 11, 2019, and may not be combined with any other offer or promotion. Visit zooatlanta.org to plan your day.

About Zoo Atlanta
A proud accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the gold standard for animal care and welfare, Zoo Atlanta has a mission to save wildlife and their habitats through conservation, research, education and engaging experiences. The Zoo is home to more than 1,000 animals representing more than 200 species from around the world, many of them endangered or critically endangered. Highlights include giant pandas, including Ya Lun and Xi Lun, the only giant panda twins in the U.S.; one of North America’s largest zoological populations of great apes; and a global center of excellence for the care and study of reptiles and amphibians. Recent transformations include Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience, home to more than 70 species in the world’s first LEED Gold-certified reptile and amphibian complex. Experiences include behind-the-scenes Wild Encounters with African lions, Aldabra giant tortoises, giant pandas and lemurs. Zoo Atlanta is open year-round with the exceptions of Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Keeper Talks, interactive wildlife presentations, education programs and special events run year-round. For more information, visit zooatlanta.org.

NOW OPEN: the all-new African Savanna, featuring new and expanded habitats for African elephants, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, warthogs and meerkats. The African Savanna is part of the Zoo’s landmark Grand New View transformation. Future elements include Savanna Hall, a state-of-the-art special event destination, and a new grand entry plaza, opening in early 2020.
