Kick off the holidays with two festive events
Start the season this weekend with the return of two festive traditions at Zoo Atlanta.
Zoo Atlanta kicks off the holiday season with a festive weekend featuring the second year of a new tradition and the return of an annual favorite at Jungle Bells on Saturday, December 1 and Cookies with Santa on Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, 2018.
Zhu Zhu the giant panda mascot will do the honors at the second-annual lighting of Zoo Atlanta’s 20-foot holiday tree in Flamingo Plaza. Enjoy children’s crafts, a DJ dance party and special entertainment from The Graduates Acapella Group; HARMONY: Atlanta’s International Youth Chorus; Neighborhood Ballet; and Rosa Bulgaria Dance. Activities will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. Jungle Bells activities are free with general admission; free for Members and children under 3.
Holiday snacks, warm spiced cider and, for guests over 21, warm mulled wine and hot hard cider, will be available for purchase.
Animals throughout the Zoo will discover holiday-themed surprises in their habitats during the annual Ho-Ho-Holiday Animal Enrichment Extravaganza on Saturday, December 1. Enrichment is a vital component of superior animal care at accredited zoological organizations, and Zoo Atlanta has a robust enrichment program in place year-round for all species. Animal enrichment, which may take the form of objects, foods, scents, feeder puzzles and more, stimulates animals’ natural behaviors and adaptations while promoting their well-being. Visit here for the animal activity schedule; all animal activities are weather and temperature-permitting.
Cookies with Santa
Santa Claus makes two stops at Zoo Atlanta on Saturday and Sunday, December 2 and 3. Enjoy a visit with Santa and professional photo; hot cocoa and cookies; crafts; costume character meet-and-greets; animal encounters; music; and a holiday movie.
A separate ticket is required to attend Cookies with Santa, and pre-registration is strongly encouraged with limited time slots remaining. Make reservations now or plan your visit on zooatlanta.org.

About Zoo Atlanta
Viewed as one of the finest zoological institutions in the U.S. and a proud accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Zoo Atlanta has a mission to inspire value and preservation of wildlife through a unique mix of education and outdoor family experiences. From well-known native wildlife to critically endangered species on the brink of extinction, the Zoo offers memorable close encounters with more than 1,000 animals from around the world. Zoo highlights include giant pandas, including Ya Lun and Xi Lun, a set of twins born to Lun Lun on September 3, 2016; one of North America’s largest zoological populations of great apes; and a global center of excellence for the care and study of reptiles and amphibians. Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience, featuring more than 70 species in a 111,000 square-foot complex, is the world’s first LEED Gold-certified reptile and amphibian exhibit. The Zoo’s newest experience, Treetop Trail presented by Kaiser Permanente, opened in March 2017. Up-close-and-personal animal experiences include behind-the-scenes Wild Encounters with African elephants, African lions, Aldabra giant tortoises and giant pandas. Zoo Atlanta is open year-round with the exceptions of Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Keeper talks, interactive wildlife presentations, education programs and special events run year-round.
