World Migratory Bird Day

May 11

Fly on over to Zoo Atlanta for a fun-filled day celebrating migratory birds!

In the wild

In North and South America, approximately 350 bird species migrate between summer and winter habitats. Their flights span state and national boundaries, migrating between nesting habitats in North American and non-breeding grounds in Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

What’s the issue?

Approximately 91 percent of plastic is discarded as waste instead of being recycled. Plastics exist indefinitely, and over time they break into smaller and smaller pieces. These large and small pieces of plastic accumulate in landfills and the natural environment, increasing the detrimental exposure of birds to plastic.

You can help by reducing your plastic consumption. Join us here at Zoo Atlanta on May 11 to learn more about migratory birds and ways you can help them to continue soaring.

Say No to Plastics

I use plastic. I recycle. What’s the issue?

Plastic is a durable material made to last forever, yet 33 percent of it is used once and then discarded. Unfortunately, plastic never goes away. Plastic cannot biodegrade and only breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces.
