The red kangaroo is the largest of all kangaroo species and is an emblem of Australia. Although they are very different in appearance and manner of moving, red kangaroos are similar to the white-tailed deer in their general ecology and tolerance of human alteration to their habitats.

The red kangaroos at the Zoo are easily visible on all but the coldest days, when they generally spend time in their heated indoor area. They are more active in the mornings, and tend to spend much of the afternoon lounging about or sleeping.
