Mambas, and black mambas in particular, are widely known as being among the world’s most dangerous snakes. While it is true that their venom is potent, and they do not tolerate intruders that approach too closely, like all snakes, they are quick to flee unless they are cornered or restrained in any way.

Dry Forests, Grasslands
This species is usually visible in the large habitat in the indoor gallery section of Scaly Slimy Spectacular. There is a small opening in the rockwork that leads to an off-habitat shift-box, so on occasion the mamba may choose to spend time there. The keepers take advantage of the shift box to perform close visual examinations to evaluate the general health of the snake.
