What do veterinarians do? Most people know that they help animals stay healthy. In zoos, veterinarians play this role, in addition to so much more. Join us at Vet Academy to discover through hands-on learning what it’s like to be a veterinarian at a zoo.
Prepare to use your imagination and become a Vet Assistant while learning how to provide the proper care for the animals at the Zoo*. Vet assistants will travel to multiple stations in our Base Camp Discovery area, mimicking a possible day in the life of a real zoo vet! Some stations may be routine animal check-ups, while others may present an injured or sick animal* that you will have to help diagnose and treat. Vet Assistants should be ready to use their imaginations, use their brains, ask questions, take animal measurements, perform examinations, and more.
*Please note: There will be no live animals present during Vet Academy. Plush animals and other types of representatives will be used to allow for hands-on experiences.
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Sessions begin every 30 minutes.
Anyone is welcome at Vet Academy. However, the program is targeted to guests ages 6 and up. Participants will be grouped based on age.
